Scalp micropigmentation for Alopecia
Alopecia can lead to significant distress and anxiety for those who experience it. From patchy, localised hair loss (alopecia areata) to complete hair loss (alopecia totalis), the impact on both men and women is profound and long-lasting.
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) stands out as the only guaranteed solution for alopecia. While it isn’t a cure, SMP offers an effective and subtle cover-up for the symptoms, providing real closure for those affected by alopecia.
SMP can be used to conceal patches or areas of diffuse thinning. Less common types of hair loss, such as scarring alopecia, traction alopecia, and telogen effluvium, can also be effectively disguised with Scalp Micropigmentation.
SMP can be applied to areas of diffuse thinning or patchy hair loss, making it a versatile option for managing the appearance of alopecia.
What is alopecia?
Alopecia is a condition characterised by patches of hair loss across the scalp. On average, we lose around 50 to 100 hairs from our head each day, which often goes unnoticed. However, when patches of hair loss start to form, it becomes a more concerning issue. These patches, typically about the size of a small coin, can be distressing.
For many, just a few patches can be easily concealed by their remaining hair. But for others, the condition can be much more severe, sometimes leading to complete hair loss on the scalp.
This debilitating condition occurs when hair follicles shrink, slowing down hair production. This happens when white blood cells mistakenly attack the cells within the hair follicles. While the exact cause is unknown, it is believed that genetics and the immune system play a role in its development.
Alopecia does not discriminate by age or gender and can affect anyone at any point in their life.
Treatment for alopecia
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) and alopecia are closely linked. For generations, people have searched for a solution to this debilitating condition, trying countless products along the way. However, many of these options come with significant downsides—they can be invasive, uncomfortable, expensive, and are not always guaranteed to work.
The beauty of Scalp Micropigmentation lies in its simplicity. Unlike treatments that attempt to promote hair growth, SMP offers a straightforward, non-invasive solution with guaranteed results.
SMP is a contemporary aesthetic procedure where a skilled technician implants natural, specialised pigments into the scalp using a micro-needle. These pigments are applied in a series of tiny dots that mimic hair follicles. The result is a subtle shading effect that sits beneath the hair, blending the discrepancy between the skin and areas affected by alopecia.
